Details
FHWA #001270 was determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion C. The 8th Avenue Bridge is significant as it represents the distinctive characteristics of a continuous steel plate deck girder bridge with variable depth design constructed during this period. This bridge is an exceptional example as one of the longest extant bridge types now considered extremely rare, and rises to the threshold of significance under Criterion C. The bridge is also notable under Criterion C for its association with Ned Ashton, an important structural engineer from this period and the consulting engineer who designed the reconstruction project that retained many of the original character-defining features.
