TEMPORARY PORTABLE RUMBLE STRIP

 

GENERAL


The Temporary Portable Rumble Strip consists of a series of rumble strips placed in a panel of two or three to provide a rumble strip panel. These strips shall meet the requirements of the current specifications for Temporary Portable Rumble Strips and the following:

 

·         Black flexible polymer material or other material with a non-slip surface weighing at least 100 pounds.

·         Minimum length 10 feet, approximately 1 foot wide, maximum 1 inch thickness.

·         Leading and trailing edges are beveled.

·         Shall not be required to be physically attached to underlying roadway surface in order to maintain placement location.

 

Acceptance of Temporary Portable Rumble Strips is based on Approved Manufacturer and brand name as listed in the Materials Approved Products Listing Enterprise (MAPLE).

 

MANUFACTURER AND BRAND NAME APPROVAL

Manufacturer and Brand Name approval of Temporary Portable Rumble Strips will be based on satisfactory evaluation of a preliminary sample furnished to the Iowa Department of Transportation Construction and Materials Bureau, Ames, Iowa, and the manufacturer certification statement of specification compliance. Product test videos, technical data sheets and actual field performance may be substituted instead of furnishing a sample for review pursuant to Construction and materials bureau review and approval. A list of approved manufacturers and brand names based on preliminary sample evaluation and certification documentation will be developed and maintained by the Construction and Materials Bureau.

 

CERTIFICATION

 

The manufacturer shall provide Certification the product meets specifications. (Example Follows):

 

Certification Statement

 

This is to certify that (manufacturer name, product number) this Temporary Portable Rumble Strip meets the requirements of the applicable specifications of the Iowa Department of Transportation.
