The jacket shall allow free passage of pore water to the core without loss of soil material or piping. The core shall provide continuous vertical drainage. The drain shall be band –shaped with an aspect ratio (width divided by thickness) not exceeding 50.

ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance of wick drains shall be based on manufacturer and brand name approval. Approved manufacturers and brand names are listed in Appendix A.

MANUFACTUER AND BRAND NAME APPROVAL

To obtain approval, the manufacturer shall submit the following information to the Office of Materials:

1.    A product sample (three foot, full-width sample including the fabric)

2.    Product identification

3.    Technical information on use of the product

4.    Independent lab results showing the following properties:

Property                                                 Minimum roll Value.             Test Method

Grab Tensile Strength                            80 lb. (355N)                        ASTM D 4632

Trapezoidal Tear                                    25lb. (110 N)                        ASTM D 4533

Puncture Strength                                  50 lb. (220N)                        ASTM D 4833

Burst Strength.                                       130 psi (900 kPa)                 ASTM D 3796

Permittivity                                             100 gal/min/ft2                     ASTM D 4491

                                                                        (4285 L/min/m2)

The wick drain material shall be labeled or tagged in such a manner that the information for sample identification and other quality control purposes can be read from the label. As a minimum each roll shall be identified by manufacturer as to lot or control number, individual roll number, date of manufacture, manufacturer and product identification of the jacket and core.
