First Half of Video Series
One Step From Death
This award-winning program is the introductory program in the Highway Work Zone Safety series. It shows five accident simulations based on typical safety problems found in highway work zones.
Traffic Control Safety
This program emphasizes worker awareness of the dangers and safety considerations associated with the setup, operation/maintenance, and takedown of traffic control equipment including the importance of traffic control in providing traffic guidance and worker safety.
Flaggers are responsible for the life-or-death safety of everyone who works near traffic. This videotape covers basic principles, basic procedures, and applications for effective and safe flagging and can be used with the Traffic Control tape in this series.
Plant Site Safety
This program covers some of the safety hazards in permanent and portable ACC/PCC bulk plant and crushing operations. It shows what to watch out for if you're a pedestrian, a crane operator, or a truck driver traveling between the plant and the construction sites.
This program covers some of the safety hazards you'll find on typical grading sites, from clearing and grubbing to final grading. Emphasis is on personal responsibility for safety and awareness of the hazards.
This program covers some of the typical hazards around the construction of bridges and culverts, with emphasis on falling, falling objects, and crane hazards.
Second Half of Video Series
Utility Safety in Work Zones
This program shows the above and below ground hazards of telecommunications, electric, gas, water and sewer utilities; the on-site consequences when they are disrupted; and the off-site consequences to those affected by their accidental disruptions. The program also emphasizes the use of ONE CALL to locate underground utility hazards.
This program describes some of the important hazards surveyors face as they work in every phase of construction, from pre-construction to post-construction, both inside and outside the construction work zone.
Loading, Transporting, and unloading Heavy Equipment
This program shows the special considerations involved with moving equipment too large to be self transported over long distances. Emphasis is on visibility and respect for the size of the equipment.
Removal and Demolition Safety
This program shows the hazards associated with the demolition and removal of roads structures, utilities and natural structures in preparation for new construction. The program emphasizes personal safety by being knowledgeable about the job, equipment, and the plan.
Mowing Operations and maintenance Safety
This program describes a variety of short-term highway operations from snow plowing to patching, from the least dangerous to the most dangerous. It emphasizes awareness of hazards and individual responsibility for safety where standard traffic controls are at a minimum.
This program shows some of the hazards around paving with portland cement concrete (PCC) and asphalt cement concrete (ACC), including night paving operations. Emphasis is on taking personal responsibility for constantly being aware of the changing hazards in paving operations.
