Peer Exchange - August 15-17, 2007

The Iowa Department of Transportation held a Research Peer Exchange on August 15-17, 2007 in Ames, Iowa. RAC members from Region 3, along with California, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and FHWA representatives were invited. Three states (Ohio, Texas and Washington) participated by videoconference. The topic of the peer exchange was best practices in technology transfer.

On Wednesday, August 15, the first day of the exchange, participants were asked to provide examples and a short presentation on their state’s technology transfer practices, including print and electronic media from simple to complex and sophisticated. Location for the meeting was Iowa State University's Center for Transportation Research and Education (CTRE).

Video ConferenceAll day Thursday and on Friday morning, August 16 and 17, participants attended the Mid-Continent Transportation Symposium at Iowa State University. The symposium is co-sponsored by Iowa DOT. Featured speakers for the symposium were Steven Chase, FHWA Office of Research Development and Technology, and Tony Kane, AASHTO Director of Engineering and Technical Service, whose presentations are linked below.

On Friday, Dan McGehee, University of Iowa, gave a brief presentation on In the afternoon was a peer exchange wrap-up meeting to summarize the discussions, the final report, and next steps.
