TITLE:  Official Description Change:  Iowa 160 in Polk County

 

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to the relocation of Iowa 160 in Polk County on March 14, 1986, a portion of the former route of Iowa 160 was transferred to Polk County by transfer of jurisdiction agreement number 91-TJ-010 in February 1991.

 

The section of old Iowa 160 being transferred to the county begins on NE Ankeny Road from a point on NW 72nd Place located approximately 200 feet east of relocated Iowa 415 centerline; thence north and northeast approximately 1.14 miles to a cul-de-sac located approximately 600 feet south and west of the US 69/Iowa 160 Intersection, all in Section 35-T80N-R24W.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended to delete the section of old Iowa 160 described from the primary system.

 

Old Description - Iowa 160 in Polk County as follows:

 

The section of old Iowa 160 being transferred to the county begins on NE Ankeny Road from a point on NW 72nd Place located approximately 200 feet east of relocated Iowa 415 centerline; thence north and northeast approximately 1.14 miles to a cul-de-sac located approximately 600 feet south and west of the US 69/Iowa 160 Intersection, all in Section 35-T80N-R24W.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Iowa 160 has been relocated at the south edge of Ankeny and was opened to traffic on March 14, 1986.  The old alignment of Iowa 160 is to be transferred from State to County jurisdiction.

 

The official description of Iowa 160 in Polk County should be revised to reflect this relocation.  The remainder of Iowa 160 in Polk County remains unchanged.

 

Iowa 160 begins at a junction with Iowa 415 in Ankeny and travels easterly to a junction with Interstate 35 approximately one tenth (0.1) mile east of Ankeny.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended to approve revising the description of Iowa 160 in Polk County and including the new description in the primary road system.

 

New Description ‑ Iowa 160 and it's extensions in Polk County described as follows:

 

Ankeny:

 

Beginning on SW Orlabor Road at SW State Street (junction Iowa 415); thence easterly on SW Orlabor Road to the east corporation line.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of Ankeny connecting with SW Orlabor Road at a point approximately 705 feet west of the NE Corner Section 35‑T80N‑R24W; thence easterly following substantially the section line of Sections 35 (junction US 69) and 36‑T80N‑R24W to the west corporation line of Ankeny connecting with SE Orlabor Road.

 

Ankeny:

 


Beginning again on SE Orlabor Road at the west corporation line; thence east on SE Orlabor Road to the east corporation line.

 

Beginning again at the east corporation line of Ankeny and connecting with SE Orlabor Road; thence east following substantially the section line of Section 36‑T80N‑R24W to the west corporation line of Ankeny connecting with SE Orlabor Road.

 

Ankeny:

 

Beginning again on SE Orlabor Road at the west corporation line; thence east on SE Orlabor Road to the east corporation line.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑000‑0 (7) ‑‑2M‑77 between Polk County and the Iowa Department of Transportation and transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑000‑0 (4) ‑‑2M‑77, between the City of Ankeny and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred that section of road from a junction with US 69 and Iowa 160 near the NW Corner Section 36‑T80N‑R24W east to the east ramp of Interstate 35 to state jurisdiction on July 1, 1980.  The section is now designated as a portion of Iowa 160.

 

Iowa 160 begins at a junction with Iowa 415 at the south edge of the City of Ankeny and proceeds northeasterly and easterly to Interstate 35 at the south edge of the City of Ankeny.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended the commission approve deleting the present description of Iowa 160 in Polk County from the primary road system and approve including the attached new description of Iowa 160 in the primary road system.

Beginning at a point approximately 800 feet south and 200 feet west of the E ¼ Corner Section 34‑T80N‑R24W (junction Iowa 415); thence northeasterly through Sections 34 and 35-T80N‑R24W to a point near the NE Corner Section 35‑T80N‑R24W (junction US 69); thence east following substantially the section line of Section 36‑T80N‑R24W to the west corporation line of the City of Ankeny connecting with an unnamed street.

Beginning again at the west corporation line and connecting with an unnamed street; thence east to the east corpo­ration line connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Beginning again at the east corporation line of the City of Ankeny and connecting with an unnamed street; thence east following substantially the section line of Section 36‑T80N­R24W to the west corporation line of the City of Ankeny connecting with an unnamed street.

NOW THEREFORE:  Be it resolved that the Iowa State Highway Commission approve the revision of the above Primary Road Des­cription.

 

NOTE:  To become effective upon adoption of this Resolution.
