TITLE: US 218, Linn County

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

US 218 has been relocated from the Johnson‑Washington County line north and northwest to a junction with Interstate 80 and Interstate 380 in Johnson County. The final segment from the Indian Hills Interchange northwesterly to a junction with Interstate 380 was opened to traffic June 26, 1985, and was functionally classified under the State Functional Classification System on November 25, 1986. It then will run duplicate with Interstate 380 from the junction of Interstate 80 and Interstate 380 in Johnson County north to a junction with Interstate 380 and US 30 in Linn County. The official description of US 218 in Linn County should be revised to reflect this relocation. The remainder of US 218 in Linn County remains unchanged. The alignment of old US 218 in Linn County should be re-designated as Iowa 965.

US 218 begins at the Linn‑Johnson County line approximately two (2) miles south of the City of Cedar Rapids and travels northerly and westerly via Cedar Rapids to the Linn‑Benton County line approximately four miles northwest of Fairfax.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:
