DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to the relocation of US 61 in Des Moines County, the official description of this route should be revised to reflect the new alignment.

 

At the same time the old section of US 61 in sections 34, 35, and 36-T96N-R3W went back to Des Moines County by transfer of jurisdiction agreement number 93-TJ-020 on May 5, 1997.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended to approve revising the description of US 61 in Des Moines County to include the attached description in the Primary Road System.

 

New Description - US 61 and its extensions in Des Moines County described as follows:

 

Beginning on the Des Moines-Lee County line (Skunk River) in the south part of Section 33-T69N-R3W; thence in an easterly direction through Sections 33 and 34-T69N-R3W to a point on the north side of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad approximately 0.40 KM (0.25 mile) east of the west line of Section 34-T69N-R3W; thence in a northeasterly direction along the north side of said railroad and substantially parallel thereto through Section 34-T69N-R3W to a point near the east line of Section 34-T69N-R3W; thence northeasterly to near the NW Corner of Section 36-T69N-R3W; thence northeasterly through Sections 25, 24, 13 and 12-T69N-R3W; thence north following substantially the section line of Section 6-T69N-R2W to the south corporation line of Burlington connecting with Roosevelt Avenue.

 

Burlington:

 

Beginning on Roosevelt Avenue on the south corporation line; thence north on Roosevelt Avenue to the north corporation line.

 

Beginning again on the north corporation line of Burlington, connecting with Roosevelt Avenue; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Section 31-T70N-R2W to the south corporation line of Burlington connecting with Roosevelt Avenue.

Beginning again on Roosevelt Avenue on the south corporation line; thence north and northwest on Roosevelt Avenue to the north corporation line.
