DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to the relocation of US 218 in Cedar Falls in 1995, the routing for Iowa 57 was revised and the official description in the Primary Road System should be revised to reflect this change.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended the old description of Iowa 57 in Black Hawk County be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description, as described in the attachment, be included in the Primary Road System.

 

New Description - Iowa 57 and its extensions in Black Hawk County described as follows:

 

Beginning on the Black Hawk-Grundy County Line at a point near the NW Corner of Section 7-T89N-Rl4W, Black Hawk County (NE Corner of Section 12-T89N-Rl5W, Grundy County); thence east following substantially the section line through Sections 7, 8 and 9-T89N-Rl4W to the west corporation line to the City of Cedar Falls connecting with 1st Street.

 

Cedar Falls:

 

Beginning again on 1st Street at the west corporation line; thence easterly, southeasterly and easterly on 1st Street to the interchange of US 218 and Iowa 58.

Due to the relocation of US 218 in Waterloo and Cedar Falls about October of 1989 a section of Iowa 57 became US 218 and should be included in the Primary Road System.

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number 90-TJ-004 between the Iowa Department of Transportation and the City of Waterloo transferred part of Iowa 57 to local jurisdiction on October 2, 1989, and it should therefore be removed from the Primary Road System.

 

Iowa 57 begins at Grundy County Line travels east to Franklin Street (US 218) in Cedar Falls.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended the old description of Iowa 57 be deleted and the new description, as described in the attachment, be included in the Primary Road System.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

US 20 was relocated and opened to traffic on June 14, l986 using a portion of Iowa 57 alignment. That portion of Iowa 57 on the Black Hawk‑Grundy County line from a point near the SW Corner Section 31‑T89N‑R14W east to a point approximately 370 feet west of the S Corner Section 31‑T89N‑R14W should be re-designated as US 20.

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑57‑2 (12)‑‑2M‑07 between the Iowa Department of Transportation and Black Hawk County transferred that portion of Iowa 57 from a point 0.25 mile northeast of the Black Hawk‑Grundy County line in Section 31‑T89N‑Rl4W northeasterly to the west corporation line of Cedar Falls to county jurisdiction on December 2,1985. The portion of Iowa 57 from the Black Hawk-Grundy County line at a point approximately 370 feet west of the S Corner Section 31‑T89N‑R14W northeast O.25 mile to be abandoned by the state.

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑57‑2 (13)‑‑2M‑07 between the Iowa Department of Transportation and Cedar Falls transferred that portion of Iowa 57 from the west corporation line northeast to a junction with Iowa 58 to city jurisdiction on December 2, 1985.

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑57‑1 (14)‑‑2M‑07 between the Iowa Department of Transportation and Cedar Falls transferred that portion of Iowa 57 from a junction with Iowa 58 north to old US 20 (1st Street) to city jurisdiction on November 1, 1986.

 

That portion of old US 20 from the Black Hawk‑Grundy County line at a point near the NW Corner Section 7‑T89N‑R14W east via Cedar Falls and Waterloo to a junction with US 63 in Waterloo should be re-designated as Iowa 57. The official description of Iowa 57 should be revised to reflect these changes.

 

Iowa 57 begins on the Black Hawk‑Grundy County line approximately three (3) miles west of Cedar Falls and travels easterly and southeasterly via Cedar Falls and Waterloo to a junction with US 63 in Waterloo.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended to approve revising the description of Iowa 57 in Black Hawk County and including the new description in the primary road system.

Due to transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑57‑2 (9) ‑‑2M‑07 between the City of Waterloo and the Iowa Department of Transportation approved May 29, 1980, that portion of Iowa 57 from a junction with US 20 in the NW Section 9‑T89N‑R13W northerly and easterly to US 63 near the NE Corner Section 11‑T89N‑R13W should be deleted from the primary road system and reverted to the city street system of Waterloo effective July 1, 1980.
