Project: Principal Riverwalk, Walnut Street to Grand Avenue
Project number: ESL-1945(759)--7S-77
Letting date: July 21, 2009
Contractor: To be determined
Bid amount: Estimated at $2.4 million
Scope: The Principal Riverwalk features lighted, landscaped public spaces; world-class public art; unique pedestrian bridges; and pathways that connect to 300 miles of central Iowa trails. Since ground was broken in 2004, the project has sought to strengthen the heart of the city of Des Moines, unite the east and west sides of downtown, and provide opportunities for outdoor recreation.
The specific section of the Principal Riverwalk using Recovery Act funds extends from Walnut Street to Grand Avenue. The project includes a multi-purpose trail that will go under three downtown bridges and the upper level plaza area, flood gate and stone-faced concrete walls.
More information will be posted as the project progresses.
