Project: I-29

County: Harrison and Monona counties
Project number: ESIMX-029-5(100)95--1S-43
Bid date: March 31, 2009
Contractor: McCarthy Improvement Company and Affiliates DBA McCarthy Improvement Company, Davenport, Iowa
Bid amount: $42,253,361.80
Scope: This 18-mile major interstate reconstruction project begins just south of Harrison County Road F-20 and continues north to just north of Iowa 175 in Monona County. Pavement in both the northbound and southbound lanes will be replaced. The work also involves excavation and grading, bridge floor repair and construction of paved shoulders. The contractor has until May 4, 2009, to begin construction and 230 work days to complete the project.

Much of the interstate being replaced at this location consists of the original pavement. Construction of this segment was completed and opened to traffic in December 1967. As shown in the “before” photo, the roadway has undergone a lot of maintenance throughout its 32-year existence and reached the end of its useful life.

Construction progress update: April 26, 2010

Median crossovers for the interchange ramps at Blencoe are currently being constructed. The contractor is also performing patching from Onawa north to Whiting in both the northbound and southbound lanes.
