What is MAP-21?

Answer: An act to authorize funds for federal-aid highways, highway safety programs, transit programs, and for other purposes.

Highlights of the bill:

  • Extends Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Effective Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) for the final three months of FFY 2012.
  • Authorizes surface transportation programs with program restructuring for another two years – FFY 2013 and FFY 2014.
  • Extends expenditure authority from the Highway Trust Fund through Sept. 30, 2014.
  • Extends highway-related taxes through Sept. 30, 2016 (extends heavy vehicle use tax through Sept. 30, 2017).
