Ames, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) and Iowa Local Technical Assistance Program held a County Engineers research focus group in Ames to provide a forum for county engineers to share some of the day-to-day challenges encountered by their departments. Presentations made during the meeting highlighted some of the challenges county road departments have addressed during a time of reduced funding. Participants identified and shared low-cost innovations and solutions currently available to address some of these issues. A brainstorming session during the meeting identified a list of potential research topics. These topics were ranked and prioritized by the group.
