Travel Trailer Dealer's License

Anyone engaged in the business of selling travel trailers is required to obtain a travel trailer dealer's license. If currently licensed as a motor vehicle dealer a travel trailer dealer's license is still required.

BOND - A $25,000 travel trailer surety bond is required unless the applicant already has a bond on file with the department as a motor vehicle dealer.

CONTRACT FOR NEW TRAVEL TRAILERS - If selling new travel trailers a contract in writing with the manufacturer will be needed. A copy of the contract for each new line of travel trailers is required.

EXTENSION LOTAn extension license is required for any sales lots within the county that are in addition to the licensed location. A separate travel trailer dealer’s license is required to be obtained for each county in which business is conducted.

TRAVEL TRAILER DEALER’S PLACE OF BUSINESS SHALL INCLUDE:

Telephone service and office area. A travel trailer dealer’s principal place of business shall include telephone service and an adequate office area, separate from other facilities, for keeping business records, manufacturer’s certificates of origin, certificates of title or other evidence of ownership for all travel trailers offered for sale. Evidence of ownership may include a copy of an original document if the original document is held by a lien holder.

Facility for displaying travel trailers. A travel trailer dealer’s principal place of business shall include a space of sufficient size to permit the display of one or more travel trailers. The display facility may be an indoor area or an outdoor area with an all-weather surface. An all-weather surface does not include grass or exposed soil. If an outdoor display facility is maintained, it may be used only to display, recondition or repair travel trailers or to park vehicles.

Facility for repairing and reconditioning travel trailers. A travel trailer dealer’s principal place of business shall include a facility for reconditioning and repairing travel trailers. The facility:

  • Shall be equipped and of sufficient size to repair and recondition one or more travel trailers of a type sold by the dealer.
  • Shall have adequate access.
  • May be an indoor area or an outdoor area with an all-weather surface. An all-weather surface does not include grass or exposed soil.
  • May occupy the same area as the display facility.

Persons engaged in the business of selling travel trailers as well as motor vehicles will be issued two dealer license numbers. The travel trailer dealer number issued will be used when transferring travel trailers and the motor vehicle dealer number when transferring motor vehicles. All dealer plates will display the motor vehicle dealer number.
