Attention icon Attention Motor Carriers

Due to a vendor production issue, printing of the 2017 IFTA decals was delayed. All decals were delivered on or before February13th, which is in advance of the February 28th registration deadline. However, we realize that some carriers may be out of the state completing a long haul delivery and may not be able to place the updated sticker to the vehicle before this date. If you have applied for a 2017 decal, your 2016 IFTA decals will be considered valid through March 31, 2017, to allow you time to receive and affix the 2017 decal. The IFTA commissioners in each jurisdiction have been notified of the extended grace period. If you run into an issue with law enforcement, please have them verify your 2017 registration through the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS). For questions, contact the Iowa Department of Transportation Office of Vehicle & Motor Carrier Services at 515-237-3268.

In addition to being a serious safety issue, continuing to operate these vehicles could be considered a violation of 49 C.F.R. 3.6.7, which prohibits operation of a vehicle in a condition likely to cause an accident or a breakdown. Safety demands that operators of these vehicles take prompt and appropriate action to ensure this issue is addressed.
