U.S. 52 closed due to winter storm

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) is reporting that U.S. 52 between Richardsville and Luxenburg in Dubuque County is currently closed due to poor road conditions caused by the snow and high winds. The road will remain closed until the Iowa DOT crews can return it to normal winter driving conditions.

The Iowa State Patrol is currently not advising travel in much of the eastern 1/3 of Iowa. Currently, a combination of ice and snow covered roads, heavy snow, strong northwest winds gusting over 30 mph, and bitter wind chills will make travel dangerous in the affected areas. Impacted roadways include portions of Interstate 80 and all of Interstate 380.

A National Weather Service winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. for northeast Iowa, and a blowing snow advisory from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Iowa DOT will be monitoring conditions and provide further travel advisories during the winter storm, as warranted.
