Expanded area affected by icy road conditions

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) is advising motorists that the roadways in the area between Interstate 80 and U.S. 20 in the eastern half of Iowa are now threatened by the ice- and slush-covered conditions. This includes numerous state and U.S. highway routes, and is likely affecting many county roads and city streets in the area.

Interstate routes currently in the areas where travel is not advised by the Iowa State Patrol include:

  • I-80 from U.S. 169 east to the Illinois border.
  • I-35 from the Missouri border north to just north of U.S. 20.

Throughout today's winter storm, the Iowa DOT will continue to closely monitor the storm's progress and road conditions, and advise travelers of any further safety measures. The Iowa DOT's winter maintenance crews are out in full-force working to improve and maintain safe travel.
