2007 Iowa Aviation Conference to feature AMES, Iowa – Aviation aprofessionals will converge in West Des Moines on April 4-5 for the annual Iowa Aviation Conference sponsored by the Iowa Department of Transportation's Office of Aviation and the Iowa Public Airports Association. The conference will be held at the Sheraton Hotel Conference Center in West Des Moines. It is expected to attract 250 aviation professionals and 300 pilots, including representatives from 55 full-service Iowa airports. The conference will address issues on topics ranging from wildlife management at airports to aviation safety to reauthorization of federal aviation programs that provide funding for aviation projects in Iowa and across the nation. Iowa Congressmen Leonard Boswell and Bruce Braley, both members of the House Aviation Subcommittee, will speak at the conference. Additional guests will include Federal Aviation Administration Regional Administrator, Chris Blum, and Manager of the FAA Financial Assistance Division from FAA headquarters in Washington D.C., Barry Molar. Phil Boyer, president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the world's largest aviation association with more than 410,000 members worldwide and more than 4,000 members in Iowa , will be a featured speaker at the conference and will host a Pilot Town Meeting the evening of April 4. In Iowa, 1.3 million aircraft operations are conducted each year and more than 3 million passengers are processed through commercial service airports. A 2006 national study concluded that aviation provides over a $1 billion economic impact in Iowa. Iowa 's air transportation system supports business and personal travel, aerial agricultural operations, emergency medical operations, cargo shipments, and aerial survey.
