DOT offices closed for the holidays

AMES , Iowa – Iowa Department of Transportation driver's license stations and the motor carrier permit center will be closed for the upcoming holidays according to the following schedule.

Driver's License Stations
All Iowa DOT driver's license stations will be closed Saturday Dec. 24, 2005, for the Christmas Holiday. The stations will resume normal hours on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005.

For the New Year's holiday the driver's license stations will be closed Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, and will resume normal hours on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.

Motor Carrier Permit Center
The Iowa DOT's Permit Center will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24, and Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, for the Christmas holiday. The permit center will resume normal hours of operation Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005.

For the New Year's holiday, the DOT permit center will be closed Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, and Monday, Jan 2, 2006. Normal hours of operation will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.

Oversize/overweight load movements are allowed to move on both of these holidays as long as permits are obtained in advance.

The permit center experiences a heavy workload on the day following the holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those over 156,000 lbs, several days before needing the permit.

The permit center, located at Park Fair Mall, 100 Euclid Ave., Des Moines, is a one-stop source for fuel and trip permits, routing for oversize loads, IRP (international registration plan) registration, IFTA (international fuel tax agreement) licensing, and travel authority needed by truckers to operate in Iowa and several other states.
