Iowa DOT Permit Center closed for Thanksgiving holiday AMES, IOWA – The Iowa DOT's Regional Permit Center will be closed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Nov. 24-26, 2005, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Truckers and other commercial vehicle operators needing permits for registration, fuel, authority, or oversize loads to travel in Iowa on that day will need to get all permits in advance. The permit center will be open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 and normal operations will resume Monday, Nov. 28, 2005. The permit center, located at Park Fair Mall, 100 Euclid Ave., Des Moines, is a one-stop source for fuel and trip permits, routing for oversize loads, IRP (international registration plan) registration, IFTA (international fuel tax agreement) licensing, and travel authority needed by truckers to operate in Iowa and several other states.
