DOT offices closed for holiday

AMES , Iowa – Truckers and other drivers who need Iowa Department of Transportation services around the Labor Day holiday should plan ahead.

All Iowa Department of Transportation driver's license stations will be closed Saturday, Sep. 3, 2005, in observance of Labor Day. The stations will resume normal operations on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005.

Iowa DOT's Regional Permit Center will be closed for the holiday. The permit center will close at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, and reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6. Truckers and other commercial vehicle operators needing permits for registration, fuel or authority to travel in Iowa during the Labor Day holiday will need to get them in advance.

Truckers should also note that no movements of oversize loads will be permitted in Iowa from noon Sept. 2 until 30 minutes prior to sunrise on Sept. 6.

The permit center, located at Park Fair Mall, 100 Euclid Ave., Des Moines, is a one-stop source for fuel and trip permits, routing for oversize loads, IRP (international registration plan) registration, IFTA (international fuel tax agreement) licensing, and travel authority needed by truckers to operate in Iowa and several other states.
