Permit center closed for holiday

AMES , Iowa – Truckers who need Iowa Department of Transportation services around the Fourth of July holiday should plan ahead.

Truckers and other commercial vehicle operators needing permits for registration, fuel or authority to travel in Iowa during the Fourth of July holiday will need to get them in advance because the Iowa DOT's Regional Permit Center will be closed for the holiday. The permit center will close at 4:30 p.m. July 1, and reopen at 7 a.m. July 5.

Truckers should also note that no movements of oversize loads will be permitted in Iowa from noon July 1 until 30 minutes prior to sunrise on July 5.

The permit center, located at Park Fair Mall, 100 Euclid Ave., Des Moines, is a one-stop source for fuel and trip permits, routing for oversize loads, IRP (international registration plan) registration, IFTA (international fuel tax agreement) licensing, and travel authority needed by truckers to operate in Iowa and several other states.
