2005 Aviation Events Provide AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation's Office of Aviation is pleased to release the 2005 Iowa Calendar of Aviation Events. In 2005, airports around Iowa will host more than 50 air shows and fly-in events that are open to the public. A list of all events is attached and can also be found on iawings.com. Aviation events are among some of the most popular outdoor events in Iowa during the spring, summer and fall months. Attendance can range from a few hundred to thousands. Aviation events and the shows provide a great way for the public to be entertained, while learning about Iowa's aviation system. Fly-Ins Fly-in events are open to the public. Take an up-close look at a variety of airplanes, visit firsthand with pilots, and learn more about your local airport. Weather permitting, pilots from around Iowa and surrounding states typically fly in to these local community events. Many fly-ins also offer breakfast and airplane rides. Air Shows Iowa airports will host at least six air shows in 2005. Enjoy thrilling aerial maneuvers flown in a variety of aircraft. Performances ranging from smooth precision maneuvers to exciting military teams to daring aerobatics will impress all in attendance.
