Applications for intercity bus assistance now being accepted AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Office of Public Transit will be accepting applications to participate in Iowa’s Intercity Bus Assistance Program until Oct. 15, 2004. The Intercity Bus Assistance program can provide up to $0.50 per mile to support preventive maintenance and insurance costs of new intercity bus routes or up to $0.10 per mile to support these costs for existing intercity bus routes. The program can also provide 80 percent of the funding for marketing of intercity bus services or capital improvements in support of intercity bus services. Private carriers as well as public transit systems can apply. To qualify, the intercity bus routes must serve stops outside urbanized areas. Applications to participate in Iowa’s Intercity Bus Assistance Program during calendar 2005 are available at http://www.iatransit.com. Completed applications must be received by the Iowa DOT, Office of Public Transit, 800 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50010 by Oct. 15. Applicants will be notified of project selection by Dec. 1.
