Aviation public input meetings to be
held AMES, Iowa – The
Iowa Department of Transportation’s Office of Aviation has announced dates and
locations for public input meetings on the long-range Iowa Aviation System Plan
update. The plan looks at future
aviation demand in the state along with current levels of services and
facilities at Iowa’s 111 publicly owned airports. The result is a plan with a
20-year outlook that can be used as a guide to meet Iowa’s future aviation
needs. Each airport will be
aligned with one of five service categories: commercial, enhanced, general,
basic, and basic II. Each category will have a set of facility and service
objectives to assist airports with planning guidance. Six public input meetings
will be held around the state. Prior to the public input meetings, each airport
will receive a summary of its position within the system plan. At the meetings, the
proposed system plan will be presented and the public will have the opportunity
to comment on the plan and future roles that will be assigned to each of
Iowa’s publicly owned airports. Following the public input
meetings, final recommendations will be developed and released. Public
