Burlington Trailways
to start new Des Moines to Chicago bus service AMES,
Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation has learned that Burlington
Trailways of West Burlington, Iowa, will be implementing a new route effective
Aug. 18. Burlington
Trailways, a family owned
and operated corporation that provides transportation services to people and
various business entities in their market area, will be offering service
between Des Moines and Chicago. The
route will serve the Iowa communities of Des Moines, Marshalltown, Cedar Rapids,
Waterloo, Dyersville, and Dubuque. Burlington
Trailways is committed to serving and providing connecting service to rural
communities in the five states where they currently offer scheduled service.
Burlington Trailways will now offer service to 21 Iowa communities. This
announcement comes on the heels of Greyhound Lines, Inc. recent decision to
implement a new route structure in the northern region of the United States.
Greyhound’s restructuring will result in 14 Iowa stops being
eliminated, while some Iowa communities may see increased service or no change.
Burlington Trailways’ new route will help reduce the impact of the loss
of the eastern Iowa service by picking up five of those stops with no
interruption in service. “We
are very happy that a high level of service will be maintained between Iowa and
Illinois, and that travelers will still be able to make those eastern Iowa
connections,” said Michelle McEnany, director of Iowa DOT’s Office of Public
Transit. For
