DOT permit center closed for holiday

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Transportation's Permit Center will be closed Saturday, Jan. 17, and Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The permit center will resume normal hours of operation Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Oversize/overweight load movements are allowed to move on the holiday as long as permits are obtained in advance.

The permit center experiences a heavy workload on the day following the holiday. Therefore, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those over 156,000 pounds, several days before needing the permit.

The permit center, located at Park Fair Mall, 100 Euclid Ave., Des Moines, is a one-stop source for fuel and trip permits, overdimensional routing, IRP registration, IFTA licensing, and travel authority needed by truckers to operate in Iowa and several other states.
