Floyd County section of the Avenue of the Saints to open Nov. 6

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 2 Office in Mason City is making plans to open a short section of the Avenue of the Saints/Iowa 27 on Nov. 6.

Weather permitting, the northbound lanes of Iowa 27 will open from 270th Street to 250th Street between Nashua and Charles City on that date.

The opening of the northern Iowa portions of the Avenue of the Saints began in 1993 with the stretch from Janesville to Waverly, including the Janesville bypass. This was followed by the Cedar Falls to Janesville section in 1995; the Mason City to Rudd section and Waverly bypass in 1999; the Charles City bypass and roadway extending west to Rudd in 2000; the Plainfield bypass that opened in the fall of 2002; and the Nashua bypass that opened this summer.

The Avenue of the Saints Corridor is a major transportation link connecting St. Paul, Minn., and St. Louis, Mo. The total length of the Avenue of the Saints is 536 miles, with 270 of those miles in Iowa.

This route is intended to boost economic development in Iowa, Missouri and Minnesota. It is part of the state’s Commercial an Industrial Network that provides vital links for services and the movement of raw materials and consumer goods.

In addition, the four-lane route makes travel more convenient, safe and efficient.
