Iowa DOT to host 2005 National Association of
State Aviation Officials Annual Convention

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation announces that our state has been chosen as the site of a national aviation conference. The National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) has chosen Iowa as the host state for the group’s 2005 annual convention.
The convention is held each September with the host state choosing the dates and location. This is a venue for state aviation officials to come together to discuss important aviation issues facing the states and nation.

NASAO represents, on a national level, state government aviation officials who serve in all 50 states, Guam and Puerto Rico. State aviation directors, agency staff, vendors and consultants generally attend the annual NASAO Convention.

NASAO has been in existence for 73 years and this will be the first time they have held their annual convention in Iowa. Typically, at least 40 states are represented at the conference, which averages an attendance of 300.

“We are thrilled that the NASAO Board of Directors voted to bring their convention to Iowa. This is an excellent opportunity for the Iowa DOT, state and host city to showcase the attractions and local events Iowa has to offer aviation officials across the nation,” said Mark Wandro, director of the Iowa DOT.

DOT’s Office of Aviation will be choosing the host community for this event in the near future. Once that community is chosen, staff will identify a committee to develop a theme and determine activities for attendees.
