vehicle auction Oct. 25 AMES, Iowa – More than 200 vehicles and many other pieces of equipment will be sold by the Iowa Department of Transportation at an auction Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 9 a.m. The sale will be held at the auction lot at South Fourth Street and Oak Avenue in Ames. Vehicles and equipment to be sold are from the DOT, University of Iowa, Iowa State University, the state vehicle dispatcher, cities and counties. Included in the sale are approximately 75 cars, 40 vans, 55 pickups, 45 trucks, and other pieces of equipment. The cars to be sold include 35 Ford Crown Victoria sedans, 16 Ford Taurus sedans, four Chevrolet Cavalier sedans and five station wagons. Vans that will be auctioned include several Dodge, Ford,
GMC and Chevrolet minivans, Dodge 15-passenger vans, and cargo vans. Ten sport utility vehicles will be for sale including three Ford Expeditions and three Jeep Cherokees. Pickups to be sold include 29 Dodge BR1500 one-half tons, six Ford Randers and four Ford F150s. The trucks include 10 International 1954s, three International 1754s, and six Ford LN8000s. Other equipment includes Case and John Deere tractors,
four Yamaha G-9 golf carts, one Ingersoll Rand air compressor, several trailers,
wheel loaders, tires, mowers and much more. The auction items may be inspected at the sale site from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 24 and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Oct. 25. All vehicles and other items are sold “as is” with no warranties or guarantees. When needed, “in transit” paper licenses will be furnished by the DOT after final settlement has been made. Bidders must be 18 years of age or older. Bidders will be assigned a permanent bid number that must be displayed when purchasing an item; those who already have permanent bid numbers assigned should bring their numbers with them. Each successful bidder must furnish a $200 deposit for
each vehicle that is not paid for in full on the day of the sale. Payment can be
made with cash, personal or company check, traveler’s check, postal money
order, cashier’s check or bank draft. The DOT reserves the right to request
certified funds. Political subdivisions can use requisitions or purchase orders.
Buyers are encouraged to make final settlements on the day
of the sale, and final payments must be made no later than 4 p.m. Oct. 31. Kellner Auction Services from Rutland, Iowa, will conduct
the sale. Coffee, sandwiches, and cold drinks will be available at the auction
site. A listing of the items included in the auction is also available on the
