I-80 traffic being shifted in Iowa City area

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Sept. 17, 2003 –The routing of traffic on Interstate 80 in the Iowa City area is being changed, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation Cedar Rapids construction office. Early Wednesday morning, Sept. 17, eastbound traffic on I-80 was shifted from the median to the eastbound lanes from just east of the Interstate 380 interchange to just east of Iowa 965.

After 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, the westbound lanes will be shifted into the median to allow the interstate bridge over Iowa 965 to be widened to the outside, and to continue the reconstruction of I-80 from near the I-380 interchange (Exit 239) east to Iowa 965 (Exit 240). The entrance loop to eastbound I-80 from southbound Iowa 965 also reopened Wednesday morning. Traffic southbound on Iowa 965 will no longer need to use the temporary median cut and traffic signals to go eastbound on I-80.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution, follow construction signs, and obey the posted speed limit.

L.L. Pelling Company of North Liberty is the prime contractor for the $9,862,000 project, which is scheduled to be completed by late October.
