Hawkeye football fans to face road construction this Saturday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The arrival of Labor Day weekend this year also brings the first University of Iowa home football game in Iowa City. I-80 construction work is continuing at Interchange 240 (Coral Ridge Avenue) in Coralville according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Cedar Rapids construction office. Two lanes of I-80 are open in each direction; however, delays in the construction zone are possible due to increased traffic this holiday weekend. Work to widen I-80 to six lanes in the area is anticipated to last through October.

Westbound U.S. 6 west of the intersection with Coral Ridge Avenue is also under construction to widen the roadway to four lanes. Caution is advised in this area as well.

With a little planning, travel delays and confusion can be avoided and your trip will go smoothly. The game begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, and motorists are advised to allow extra travel time to the game, and to use caution when entering and traveling through the work zone. If you can’t avoid work zones, "Expect the unexpected!" Keep an eye out for workers, their equipment, and the traffic around you.
