DOT announces summer aviation activities AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation announces the dates of exciting aviation–related workshops this summer. The DOT’s Office of Aviation is partnering with the Iowa Aviation Promotion Group and Iowa State’s Extension-Science, Engineering and Technology Department to advance aviation-related education and careers. Because of interest related to this year’s 100th anniversary of powered flight, available space for these events is expected to fill quickly. Rockets, Robots, Airplanes, Stars and DNA is a two-day camp for 9-12 year olds. Students will build and fly model aircraft and explore other aspects of the universe at the Iowa 4-H Center in Madrid on June 15-18. Registration can be completed online at www.iastate.edu or by calling Barbara Neal at 515-795-3338. Two teachers’ workshops, titled Exploration of Aviation/Aerospace, will be conducted at selected sites around the state. The workshops provide teachers with information and materials necessary for integrating aviation and aerospace studies and careers into classroom curriculum. Graduate credit will be available for both workshops. Call Steve Truby at 515-294-2078 for more information on these teachers’ workshops.
