DOT ANNOUNCES AIRPORT GRANT AWARDS

AMES, IOWA – Twelve Iowa communities will receive state grants in fiscal year 2002 to improve structures at their airports, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's Office of Aviation. The 12 grant amounts will total $500,000.

The funding is provided by the state's vertical infrastructure grant program for general aviation airports, which was approved by the Iowa Transportation Commission as part of the DOT's 2002-2006 Iowa Transportation Improvement Program. Funding for this program comes from the Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund.

According to Office of Aviation Director Michelle McEnany, “The approval of this funding shows the importance of general aviation activities to Iowa's economic viability.
