DOT ACCEPTING ENTRIES FOR 2001 AVIATION ART CONTEST

AMES, IOWA - Entries are now being accepted for the 2001 International Aviation Art Contest. Contest brochures and entry forms are being sent to art teachers throughout the state to encourage student participation.

Students may also submit their entries directly to the Iowa Department of Transportation. All entries must be submitted to the Iowa DOT by Feb. 13, 2001.

There are three age categories for judging: 6-9, 10-13 and 14-17. The age categories are determined by the contestants’ ages on Dec. 31, 2000. The best entries in each category will be selected as state winners and runners-up. State winners will then compete on the national level. The artwork of the national winners in each age group will be forwarded for international judging by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale.

The theme of this year’s contest is “My Dream to Fly,” and the objective of the contest is to help children become more familiar with and participate in aeronautics, engineering and science.

The nine national winners and runners-up will receive certificates, ribbons and framed photos of their artwork. The international awards will be gold, silver and bronze medals. State winners will receive a certificate.

Sponsors of the 2001 International Aviation Art Contest are the National Aeronautic Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials, Federal Aviation Administration, and Federation Aeronautique Internationale.

For an art contest brochure and entry form, contact the Iowa Department of Transportation, Office of Aviation, 800 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50010, or call 515-239-1689.
