The
HIGHWAY: US 20
US
20 has played a prominent role in the economic development of Iowa since
its construction in the early 1930's. A four-lane US 20 across Iowa figures
prominently in the state's transportation strategy for the 21st Century.
The completion of
US 20 through Hardin and Grundy Counties marks a major milestone
in the development of the corridor. With the completion of this section,
US 20 is now a four-lane highway from Dubuque to Fort Dodge.
An improved US 20
means improved traffic service levels, greater safety and improved access
to north central Iowa. Adjacent communities will enjoy greater economic
benefits and direct access to the Interstate Highway system. A more direct
highway will mean a shorter traveling distance between Waterloo and Interstate
35, a reduction from 55 to 40 miles.
