Street Construction Fund and Secondary Road Fund

Street Fund

The legislature appropriated to the Iowa DOT $39,450,000 in House File 822 and $5,550,000 in House File 820 for formula distribution to the cities and counties. Fifty percent of the funding shall be deposited into the Street Construction Fund of the Cities and 50 percent into the Secondary Road Fund of the Counties, to be used for construction, reconstruction, repair, and maintenance of city roads or secondary roads. The selection of projects will be made by the local governmental agencies receiving these funds.

The moneys allocated to the cities and counties shall be expended in two years (the first year receiving 45 percent of the amount and the second year receiving the remaining 55 percent. The dollars will arrive in July 2009 and July 2010.)

FY 2010 installment

On July 28, 2009, the State Treasurer's office distributed the FY 2010 installment of I-JOBS street and road funding to the cities and counties. Actual distribution amounts for FY 2010 (45 pecent of the total funding) and FY 2011 (55 of the total funding) may vary slightly from the estimates prepared in April 30, 2009 (links provided in the paragraph above). These estimates reflect the total amount of funding cities and counties are projected to receive over the two-year period. They are based on the FY 2009 distribution formula. The actual distribution amounts will be based on the FY 2010 and FY 2011 distribution formulas, as determined by the Treasurer's office annually.
