I-29 Improvement Project

Segment 1: South Corridor

The Segment 1 study area begins at Sergeant Bluff and ends approximately one-quarter mile south of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad bridge over the Missouri River. The project area encompasses the existing Singing Hills interchange and U.S. 20 interchange.

The proposed improvements to this segment include upgrading mainline I-29 from four lanes to six lanes and upgrading several ramps of the Singing Hills and I-129/U.S. 20/U.S. 75 interchanges.

A categorical exclusion will be prepared discussing the environmental constraints within the Segment 1 study area. Categorical exclusions are a category of actions that do not individually or cumulatively have a significant effect on the environment, and for which neither an environmental assessment nor an environmental impact statement is required.

Preliminary design of Segment 1 is underway. Timing of improvements will be dependent on funding availability, as well as staging of improvements among other segments of the I-29 project area.
