Western Iowa intelligent transportation system (ITS) projectThe western Iowa ITS project, consisting of deployments in the Sioux City and Council Bluffs/Omaha metropolitan areas, provides a system of integrated technologies for detection, verification, and management of traffic congestion and incidents. This system will also utilize various technologies to provide for the dissemination of accurate and timely traffic information to the public.
As part of the Interstate 29 reconstruction effort in Sioux City, the Iowa DOT will has installed a high bandwidth fiber optic and wireless communications network, and a system of 27 pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) cameras, 26 sensors and a highway advisory radio (HAR) transmitter in the Sioux City metropolitan area. Installations in the Sioux City area are primarily on I-29, U.S. 20, Iowa 12, and Business U.S. 75.
