CHANNELIZER MARKERS


 

GENERAL

Channelizer markers are intended to supplement temporary retro reflective pavement markings for two-lane, two-way operations. Approved Products are listed in the Materials Approved Products Listing Enterprise (MAPLE).

 

All products submitted for approval must comply with the most recent edition of the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH). Devices submitted with modifications to previously approved NCHRP-350 products must be fully compliant with the most recent edition of MASH.

 

It is the intent of the department to utilize products that comply with the most recent edition of MASH.

 

Manufacturers shall indicate MASH-16 compliance by December 31, 2021 to remain an approved product within MAPLE.

 

ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance of channelizer markers will be on the basis of manufacturer and brand name approval and satisfactory field performance.

 

MANUFACTURER & BRAND NAME APPROVAL

Manufacturer and brand name approval will be based on preliminary inspection and testing of samples submitted by the manufacturer to the Construction and Materials Bureau.

 

Sample shall consist of one marker and the adhesive for installation along with literature describing the marker and its installation.

 

Channelizer markers shall have two yellow reflective lenses on each side that face traffic with a minimum size of 0.5-inch by 3.75-inch for each lens that shall provide reflectance from approaching headlights. The channelizer markers shall be made of yellow plastic with nominal dimensions of 2.5-inch height by 7.5-inch depth by 13-inch width.

 

Approval of channelizer markers may be withdrawn because of deficient monitor test results; product changes made after original approval, or unsatisfactory field performance.

 

MONITOR SAMPLING & TESTING

The Construction and Materials Bureau may sample and test channelizer markers to verify compliance with specifications.
