CHAPTER 4

CONSTRUCTION SURVEY

4.00     GENERAL STAKING REQUIREMENTS

Specification 1105.15, Construction Stakes, requires that certain vertical and horizontal control stakes be set for the various items of work to be constructed.  This is interpreted to mean the Contracting Authority will provide the Contractor with sufficient intermediate grade and alignment points or stakes, so the Contractor can construct the work according to contract documents.

When grade and alignment stakes, including intermediate points, are set by the Contracting Authority's construction survey crew, the Contracting Authority will be responsible for correctness of staking.  The Contractor shall be responsible for the correct transposing of data from the construction stakes to the work.

Refer to "Inspector's Handbook for Construction Survey" for instructions on construction staking for the various types of work.  A copy of the handbook can be obtained from the Office of Construction and Materials.  Also, refer to Construction Manual 11.21 for additional information on staking and checking locations of structures.
