Price Adjustment for

Noncomplying Film Thickness

The following procedure is to be used for calculating price adjustments, based on computed binder film thickness (FT) in microns and location of noncomplying HMA:

Location	Price Adjustment Factor (PAF)
Base	0.15
Intermediate	0.20
Surface	0.25
Shoulders	0.15

LOW FILM THICKNESS (FT < 8.0 microns)

For HMA in Tons, use the following formula for Price Adjustment:

· Price Adjustment = (PAF) X [8.0 – FT] X [(contract price of HMA mix) X (tons of mix)] 

For HMA in Square Yards (SY), use the following formula for Price Adjustment:

· Price Adjustment = (0.5) X (PAF) X [8.0 – FT] X [(contract price of HMA per SY) X (SY of HMA)]

HIGH FILM THICKNESS (FT > 15.0 microns)

For HMA in Tons, use the following formula for Price Adjustment:

· Price Adjustment = (PAF) X [FT – 15.0] X [(contract price of HMA mix) X (tons of mix)] 

For HMA in Square Yards (SY), use the following formula for Price Adjustment:

· Price Adjustment = (0.5) X (PAF) X [FT – 15.0] X [(contract price of HMA per SY) X (SY of HMA)]

Notes:

1. For FT < 7.0 or FT > 16.0, the Engineer may consider the lot defective.  This applies to all lots (days) of production.

2.  No film thickness price adjustment for the test strip (first day of production, if no test

     strip performed) for each job mix formula.

3.  No film thickness price adjustment on temporary pavement.
