INSPECTION & ACCEPTANCE
Tire buffings from the tire retreading industry used for filling expansion joints shall meet the requirements of applicable Iowa Department of Transportation Specifications.
Acceptance of tire buffings used for filling expansion joints will be on the basis of approved sources and visual inspection by the project inspector. Any commercial retreading facility or material supplier is approved to supply the tire buffings. The tire buffings shall be clean, dry, and free of foreign materials and of consistent gradation. The Central Materials Office in Ames will clarify any questions about acceptability.
The Office of Materials may sample any lot at the job site, supplier, or source and test to verify compliance with specifications.
