Structural health monitoring
The Iowa Department of Transportation as a bridge owner is interested in the ability to monitor a structure to detect damage or changes in the condition of a structure at early stages. Structural health monitoring (SHM) systems use various sensors to monitor conditions and performance of a structure. The system can help determine if the useful life of the structure has expired or if other maintenance is needed.
