New Description ‑ Iowa 78 and its extension in Washington County described as follows:

 

Beginning on the Washington‑Keokuk County line at a point approximately 150 feet south of the NW Corner Section 31‑T74N‑R9W Washington County (NE Corner Section 36‑T74N‑R10W Keokuk County); thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36‑T74N‑R9W to the west corporation line of Brighton, connecting with Fountain Street.

 

Brighton:

 

Beginning on Fountain Street at the west corporation line; thence east on Fountain Street to an unnamed street; thence southeast on unnamed street to the east corporation line.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of Brighton connecting with an unnamed street; thence southeast through Section 32‑T74N‑R8W to the Washington‑Jefferson County line at a point approximately 850 feet east of the S ¼ Corner said Section 32; thence east along the Washington‑Jefferson County line (see Jefferson County) to a point approximately 200 feet west of the S ¼ Corner Section 35‑T74N‑R8W.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Iowa 78 begins on the Washington‑Keokuk County line approximately 1 mile north of the SW corner of Washington County, and travels generally easterly to the Washington-­Jefferson County line approximately 5 miles west of Coppock, and along the Washington­-Jefferson County line to a point approximately 2 miles west of Coppock, Iowa.

 

Due to a review of our Primary Road System Records Iowa 78 in Washington County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended that the old description of Iowa 78 in Washington County be deleted and the new description, as referred in the attached detailed description, be included in the Primary Road System effective upon the adoption of this resolution.

Beginning on the Jefferson‑Washington County line at a point near the north quarter corner Section 2‑T73N‑R8W; thence west along the Jefferson‑Washington County line for a distance of about 3 miles to a point near the south quarter corner Section 32‑T74N‑R8W, Washington County.

 

Road construction completed and maintenance assumed 11/9/48 verbal report by Assistant District Engineer Teal.

Beginning on the Jefferson‑Washington County line at a point near the south quarter corner Section 32‑T74N‑R8W, Washington County, thence in a northwesterly direction for a distance of about ¾ mile to the east corporation line of the town of Brighton.

 

11/9/48  Assistant District Engineer Teal advised verbally that the road from Brighton to Coppock is completed and ready to open to traffic #78 signs will be erected and state maintain as of 11/9/48.
