Beginning on the Poweshiek‑Mahaska County line at a point near the S ¼ Corner Section 35‑T78N‑R15W, Poweshiek County (N ¼ Corner Section 2‑T77N‑R15W, Mahaska County); thence northerly through Section 35‑T78N‑R15W, to a point near the N ¼ Corner said Section 35; thence in a general northerly and northeasterly direction through Sections 26, 25, 24, 13 and 12‑T78N‑R15W to a point approximately 1,320 feet north of the SW Corner Section 7‑T78N‑R14W; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Section 7‑T78N‑R14W to the south corporation line of Montezuma, connecting with Front Street.

Montezuma:

Beginning on Front Street at the south corporation line; thence northerly and northwesterly on Front Street to the north corporation line.

Beginning again on the north corporation line of Montezuma connecting with Front Street; thence in a northwesterly direction through Section 1‑T78N‑R15W, and Section 36‑T79N‑R15W to a point approximately 300 feet north of the W ¼ Corner Section 36‑T79N‑R15W; thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 36, 25, 24, 13, 12 and 1‑T79N‑R15W and Section 36‑T80N‑R15W (junction Interstate 80) to the south corporation line of Malcolm, connecting with Montezuma Street.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records US 63 in Poweshiek County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

US 63 begins on the Poweshiek‑Mahaska County line approximately 4 ½ miles west of Barnes City and travels in a generally northerly direction via Montezuma and Malcolm to the Poweshiek‑Tama County line approximately 9 miles east of the NW Corner of Poweshiek County, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate US 63 and its extensions in Poweshiek County as follows:

Beginning on the Poweshiek‑Mahaska County line at a point near the S ¼ Corner Section 35‑T78N‑R15W, Poweshiek County (N ¼ Corner Section 2‑T77N-R15W, Mahaska County); thence northerly through Section 35‑T78N‑R15W, to a point near the N ¼ Corner said Section 35; thence in a general northerly and northeasterly direction through Sections 26, 23 24, 13 and 12‑T78N‑R15W to a point approximately 1320 feet north of the SW Corner Section 7‑T78N‑R14W; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Section 7‑T78N‑R14W to the south corporation line of the City of Montezuma connecting with an unnamed street.

Montezuma:

Beginning on the south corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence northerly and northwesterly to the north corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.
