TITLE: Official Description Change: Iowa 87, Polk County

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Iowa 87 begins at US 69 approximately one mile south of the City of Alleman, and travels east four miles to a point in the City of Elkhart.

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number 83‑C‑056 between the Iowa Department of Transportation, Polk County and the City of Elkhart transferred Iowa 87 from US 69 near the NW Corner Section 36‑T81N‑R29W east to Grant Avenue in the City of Elkhart to local jurisdiction on October 17, 1983. The official description of Iowa 87 should be deleted to reflect this change in jurisdiction.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended to approve deleting the present description of Iowa 87 in Polk County from the primary road system.

Remove Iowa 87 and its extension in Polk County as follows:

Beginning at a point (junction US 69) near the NW Corner Section 36‑T81N-R29W; thence easterly following substantially the section line of Sections 36‑T81N‑R24W and Sections 31 (center of Interstate 35 interchange), 32 and 33‑T81N‑R23W to the west corporation line of the City of Elkhart connecting with an unnamed street.

Elkhart:

Beginning on the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly on unnamed street to Grant Avenue.

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, Iowa 87 in Polk County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

Iowa 37 begins at US 69 approximately 4 miles west of Elkhart and travels easterly to a point in Elkhart, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Iowa 87 and its extension in Polk County as follows:

Beginning at a point (junction US 69) near the NW Corner Section 36‑T81N‑R29W; thence easterly following substantially the section line of Sections 36‑T81N‑R24W and Sections 31 (center of Interstate 35 interchange); 32 and 33‑T81N‑R23W to the west corporation line of the City of Elkhart connecting with an unnamed street.

Elkhart:

Beginning on the west corporation line and connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly on unnamed street to Grant Avenue.

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 87 in Polk County, Iowa.

NOTE: To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.
