Beginning on the Palo Alto‑Pocahontas County line at a point near the SW Corner Section 31‑T94N‑R32W, Palo Alto County (NW Corner Section 6‑T93N‑R32W, Pocahontas County); thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 31, 30, 19, 18, 7 and 6‑T94N‑R32W, Sections 31, 30, 19, 18, 7 and 6‑T95N‑R32W and Section 31‑T96N‑R32W to the south corporation line of Emmetsburg, connecting with Broadway Street.

Emmetsburg:

Beginning on Broadway Street at the south corporation line; thence north on Broadway Street to 9th Street; thence west on 9th Street to Garfield Street; thence northwesterly on unnamed street to the west corporation line.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Road System Records, Iowa 4 in Palo Alto County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

Iowa 4 begins on the Palo Alto‑Pocahontas County line approximately 2 miles south of Mallard and travels northwesterly via Emmetsburg to the Palo Alto‑Emmet County line approximately 2 miles northwest of Graettinger, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Iowa 4 and its extension in Palo Alto County as follows:

Beginning on the Palo Alto‑Pocahontas County line at a point near the SW Corner Section 31‑T94N‑R32W, Palo Alto County (NW Corner Section 6‑T93N‑R32W, Pocahontas County); thence northerly following substantially the section line of Sections 31, 30, 19, 18, 7 and 6‑T94N‑R32W, Sections 31, 30, 19, 13, 7 and 6‑T95N‑R32W and Section 31-T96N‑R32W to the south corporation line of the City of Emmetsburg connecting with an unnamed street.

Emmetsburg:

Beginning on the south corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence in a northerly, westerly and northwesterly direction to the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

Beginning again on the west corporation line of the City of Emmetsburg connecting with an unnamed street; thence curving in a northwesterly direction to a point approximately 1800 feet west of the NE Corner Section 23‑T96N‑R33W; thence westerly following substantially the section line of Sections 23, 22 and 21‑T96N‑R33W to a point (west junction US 18) near the SW Corner Section 16‑T96N‑R33W; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Sections 16, 9 and 4-T96N-R33W and Sections 33, 28, 21, 16, 9 and 4‑T97N‑R33W to a point near the E ¼ Corner Section 5‑T79N‑R33W; thence in a northwesterly direction through Section 5‑T97N‑R33W, to the Palo Alto-Emmet County line at a point approximately ¼ mile west of the NE Corner Section 5‑T97N‑R33W, Palo Alto County (Section 32‑T98N‑R33W, Emmet County).

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 4 in Palo Alto County, Iowa.
