TITLE: Official Description Change: US 218, St. Ansgar in Mitchell County

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to construction on US 218 in St. Ansgar in 1988 a new connection with Iowa 105 was completed and a section of old US 218 became Iowa 946 in the City of St. Ansgar.

The new section of US 218 is about .06 mile and junctions with Iowa 105 just west of Park Street.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the old description of US 218 in Mitchell County be deleted and the new description, as described in the attachment, be included in the Primary Road System.

New Description - US 218 and its extensions in Mitchell County described as follows:

Beginning on the Mitchell-Floyd County line at a point near the SE Corner Section 16-T97NR16W, Mitchell County (NE Corner Section 21-T97N-R16W, Floyd County); thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 15, 10, and 3-T97N-R16W and Sections 34 and 27-T98N-R16W to a point near the NW Corner of Section 27-T98N-R16W (east junction of Iowa 9); thence west following substantially the section line of Sections 28, 29, and 30-T98N-Rl6W and Section 25-T98N-R17W to the east corporation line of Osage connecting with Main Street.

Osage:

Beginning on Main Street at the east corporation line; thence west on Main Street to 7th Street; thence north on 7th Street to the north corporation line.

Beginning again on the north corporation line of Osage connecting with 7th Street; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Section 24, 13, 12, and 1-T98N-R17W and 36, 25, and 24-T99N-R17W to a point approximately 800 feet south of the E ¼ Corner of Section 23-T99N-R17W; thence curving in a northwesterly direction to a point approximately 800 feet west of the E ¼ Corner of Section 23-T99N-R17W; thence westerly following substantially the center section line of Sections 23, 22, 21, 20, and 19-T99N-R17W and Section 24-T99N-R18W to the east corporation line of St. Ansgar connecting with 4th Street.

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, US 218 in Mitchell County should be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

US 218 begins on the Mitchell‑Floyd County line approximately 4 miles east and 42 miles south of 0sage, and travels in a generally northwesterly direction via Osage and St. Ansgar to the Iowa‑Minnesota State line at the south corporation line of Lyle, Minnesota.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate US 218 and its extensions in Mitchell County, Iowa, as follows:
