TITLE: Iowa 309, Mahaska County

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Iowa 309 begins in the City of Beacon, and travels northeasterly and easterly to Iowa 137 in the City of Oskaloosa.

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑156‑0 (4), between the City of Beacon and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred that portion of Iowa 309 from Front Street northeasterly, northwesterly and northeasterly to the north corporation line to city jurisdiction on October 28, 1980.

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑156‑0 (2)‑‑2M‑62, between Mahaska County and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred that portion of Iowa 309 from the north corporation line of the City of Beacon northeasterly and easterly to the west corporation line of the City of Oskaloosa to county jurisdiction on July 14, 1980.

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑156‑0 (3)‑‑2M‑62, between the City of Oskaloosa and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred that portion of Iowa 309 from the west corporation line easterly to Market Street to city jurisdiction on September 22, 1980.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the commission approve deleting the present description of Iowa 309 in Mahaska County from the primary road system.

Remove Iowa 309 and its extensions in Mahaska County as follows:

Beacon:

Beginning on an unnamed street at Front Street; thence northeasterly, northwesterly and northeasterly to the north corporation line, connecting with unnamed street.

Beginning on the north corporation line of the City of Beacon, connecting with an unnamed street; thence in a northeasterly direction through Section 23‑T75N‑R16W to a point approximately 800 feet west of the center of Section 23‑T75N‑R16W; thence easterly following substantially the center section line of said Section 23 to the west corporation line of the City of Oskaloosa connecting with an unnamed street.

Oskaloosa:

Beginning on the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly on an unnamed street to Market Street.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, Iowa 309 in Mahaska County should be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

Iowa 309 begins in Beacon and travels in an easterly direction to Iowa 137 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Iowa 309 and its extensions in Mahaska County, Iowa, as follows:

Beacon:

Beginning on an unnamed street at Front Street; thence northeasterly, northwesterly and northeasterly to the north corporation line, connecting with unnamed street.

Beginning on the north corporation line of the City of Beacon, connecting with an unnamed street; thence in a northeasterly direction through Section 23‑T75N‑R16W to a point approximately 800 feet west of the center of Section 23‑T75N‑R16W; thence easterly following substantially the center section line of said Section 23 to the west corporation line of the city of Oskaloosa connecting with an unnamed street.

Oskaloosa:

Beginning on the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly on an unnamed street to Market Street.

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 309, Mahaska County, Iowa.

NOTE: To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.

Commencing at the intersection of Front Street and Flora Street; thence northeasterly on Flora Street to Sheridan Street; thence northwesterly on Sheridan Street approximately 500 feet to unnamed street; thence northeasterly on unnamed street approximately 2,000 feet to the north corporation line.

Beginning on the north corporation line of the town of Beacon, connecting with an unnamed street; thence in a northerly direction to a point approximately 500 feet south of the center of the W ½ of Section 23-T75N-R16W; thence curving in a northeasterly direction to a point approximately 400 feet east of the center of the W ½ of Section 23-T75N-R16W; thence east substantially following the quarter section line to the west corporation line of the city of Oskaloosa connecting with Eleventh Avenue West.

Remove from the primary road system of Mahaska County the road beginning at a point approximately 300 feet west of the SW Corner of the NE ¼ SW ¼ Section 23-T75N-R16W, and running thence northeasterly to a point approximately 300 feet north of the SW Corner of the NE ¼ SW ¼ Section 23-T75N-R16W; thence northerly to a point approximately 400 feet east of the NW Corner of the NE ¼ SW ¼ Section 23-T75N-R16W.

Add to the primary road system of Mahaska County in lieu of the above, a road beginning at a point approximately 300 feet west of the SW Corner of the NE ¼ SW ¼ Section 23-T75N-R16W, and running thence northerly to a point approximately 500 feet south of the NW Corner of the NE ¼ SW ¼ Section 23-T75N-R16W; thence northeasterly to a point approximately 400 feet east of the NW Corner of the NE ¼ SW ¼ Section 23-T75N-R16W.
